Liner Notes
This EP was the first piece of work I released solo. It’s a scary thing to do when you are use to arranging songs with a band. Something that definitely helped ease my anxiety was working with Blake Mickens on bass and Taryn Michelson on drums. I can’t overstate how talented these musicians are. Taryn has a deep pocket and Blake’s creativity and versatility really shines, especially on Let It Stew and Like You Do.
Andrew Stephens was also a huge part of this EP. Aside from playing keys on Fly and Like You Do, he recorded, mixed, and mastered everything. He was also able to recommend horn and pedal steel players for me to collaborate with in his studio. Andrew’s creativity and piano playing have always inspired me and it was a pleasure to work with him.
Kara Yannon is featured on background vocals for Like You Do. Kara has one of my favorite voices of all time and I am fortunate to have her sing on this song.
This EP came at a strange phase in my life. I had just completed a music degree and I was living by myself for the first time. I had come from an atmosphere where most of my days were booked with classes and performances to having more free time to write and reflect on my past and future. There is a certain raw honesty about these songs both in its lyrics and how it’s played and put together. It truly is a collage of feelings I was going through at the time which were of existence and loss/gain of love. The year after this EP was released, I began my travels to explore various parts of Asia and Europe.
