That Just Aint You
Liner Notes
This was the first song that I wrote from the Color Demos. It’s about not being able to receive the love you give, and ultimately being alright with that. I remember when writing it, I was really trying to figure out what the whole “quintuplet swing” groove is all about. So, you’ll hear in the verse that I’m sliding in and out of that time feel.
The keyboard melody that I’m playing behind the vocal melody was initially how I was going to sing and phrase the verse. I ended up writing a different melody to the original one played on the keyboard, and decided to keep both. Special thanks to Tom Pini for mastering this. It was really one of the first songs I recorded and mixed all by myself. Tom’s more experienced audio mixing ears really helped fine tune everything.
