Perfect
Liner Notes
I really challenged myself in writing, recording and arranging this song. Most songs that I write start with a guitar, but this one started on the piano. Even at its most bare version, I heard all of these other instruments in its arrangement, instruments I had never recorded before like timpani and a string quartet. Every instrument you hear in this arrangement is real (except the stings quartet, that is MIDI). Special thanks to Josh Collins for mastering this track and giving it a bit of his flavor. Before I sent him the track it sounded anemic, so he really made it sound massive.
The song is about a fictional world where everything we do and are is perfect. There’s nothing out of place, no war, no greed, no hunger… As a human, imagining a world like this, there is a complacent boredom about this type of fiction that I struggle with. As humans, we are all imperfect, and that gives us direction and humility. Hope you like the song as much as I do, even though it’s not “perfect”. Check out me tracking the drums to it below!
